Founded in 1919, The American Legion is the nation’s largest and most influential veterans service organization. It is made up of 1.6 million wartime veterans who focus activities on the organization’s Four Pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Defense, Americanism, and Children & Youth.
Membership Eligibility Requirements
If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces at any time since WWII, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving — you are eligible for membership in The American Legion!
Thanks to the LEGION Act (Let Everyone Get Involved In Opportunities for National Service Act), Congress expanded the current eligibility period to cover Dec. 7, 1941, to the present, and includes the current war campaigns. Previously, there were seven declared war periods. Now there are two, the current war period dating back to World War II and another war era covering World War I. No other restrictions to American Legion membership changed.

To join, please download and complete a PDF version of the application and either mail it with a check payable to American Legion Post 251 at 2760 Duluth Highway 120, Duluth, GA 30096, or bring your completed application to the Post, where we accept cash, credit card, or check.
$40 Annual Dues
Dues are assessed annually. A portion supports Post 251 local programs; the remainder funds the Georgia Department and National Legion operations. Contact us for current rates.
